Pets experience all the same health benefits from physical activity that humans do: increased performance, decreased risk of injury, lowered stress levels, better sleep habits, and a healthier body and mind! Simple fitness exercises stimulate both the dog's brain and body, helping eliminate problem behaviors and curb boredom and anxiety. This course is designed to help you and your dog develop fundamental canine conditioning skills, including proper form for positions, canine fitness safety, and exercises to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and stamina.
Our focus during the AKC FIT DOG Level One Course will be to keep sessions fun, short, and safe, while preparing your dog for fitness-related activities. Your dogs will be acquiring new skills, using muscles they haven't before, and moving in new ways! With a strong foundation, progressing fitness skills comes naturally and more safely. You will be able to track your progress through the course with a provided skills sheet, and on the last week, you will be evaluated for graduation by an AKC FIT DOG Instructor/Evaluator! Additionally, this course will count towards achieving AKC FIT DOG titles, which officially launch in January 2023!
AKC FIT DOG Level Two will build off the foundation skills you learned in AKC FIT DOG Level One with your dog. This class will continue to develop better canine conditioning to increase your dog’s performance, increase endurance, decrease risk of injury and lower stress levels. Canine fitness is fantastic for dogs participating in all sports: agility, nose work, rally, disc, FastCat, etc.! On the last week of class, you will be evaluated for graduation by an AKC FIT DOG Instructor. Completion of this course will count towards achieving AKC FIT DOG titles!
Drop-in Strength & Conditioning Workout
While conditioning is great for all dogs, it is especially important for canine athletes. We can use exercises to help improve our dog’s flexibility, body awareness, speed, and strength, which will improve their performance overall while also reducing risk of injury. These sessions will guide you and your dog through a full workout; class will begin with a warm-up, progress to working through 3-5 different exercises, and then finish with a cool-down. We will make sure that exercises are challenging, but at an appropriate level for your dog. Exercises will be specifically designed for dogs participating in sports, but will be beneficial for all dogs!
***Completion of AKC FIT DOG Level One or instructor approval is required to participate in drop-in workouts.***
